movies with the brit.

i’m blog crazy today.  that’s because i’m bored out of my skull and i’m trying desparately to avoid work.  the sound of typing always implies that you’re busy – that’s my belief.

it’s 3.30pm and i’ve been thinking about home time now since noon. last night i recorded “27 dresses” on the DVR and i’m contemplating whether it’d be mean of me to make the Brit sit there and watch it with me.  i know he’ll try to find something else to do – some ironing that needs to be done,  dishes that need to be washed.  i made him suffer through ”the wedding planner” a few weeks ago – hmm, we both suffered through that one and i immediately apologised after.  i actually think he secretly loves chick flicks and searches the movie channels for the week for ones to record (he says he records them for me but i know the real story!).   i return the favour and search for any movies with english people in them.  i’ll scroll through the movies and say “mr. bean’s adventure,  that’s got that kooky british guy in it with the funny eyebrows.  do you want me to record it for you?”  or i’ll say “ooh, look honey. a movie about queen elizabeth.  do you want me to record that?”  i’m sure by the third or fourth movie i yell out, the brit wants to tape my mouth shut but he just laughs and asks if i used up all the memory recording movies on the Hallmark channel.   Man, i record ONE movie on the Hallmark channel and he won’t let me forget it ever.   it was a light-hearted feel-good comedy.  i was sold by the write up.

too much booty in the pants

i have J.Lo’s ass. i know it. i was outside having a break and some dude whistled at me and made a comment about it.  normally i would be flattered that some boy other than my husband thinks i’m hot but i’m disturbed more by the fact that he drew attention to the one thing i’ve always been paranoid about. i was shattered. i resolved to do a full hour, (instead of my usual half hour) at an extra high resistance on the elliptical machine today.  i decided not to eat lunch.  i almost did a set of lunges in my cubicle.  i was going nuts.  i cursed my sister for being extra skinny and having no ass.

Feeling despondent, i decided to read the huffington post to get my mind off my psychoness.  This headline caught my eye “Kate Winslet: I’m going to start loving my backside.”  aaah, epiphany.  i’m going to start loving mine too.  thanks kate for pulling me out of the doldrums.  (sorry i couldn’t watch ”titanic” all the way through).

weekend roundup.

monday.  ick.

we had a very nice weekend.  saturday was very hot (44°C) so we closed up the house and shut all the drapes trying to prevent any of the heat from coming in. i felt like a mole – living in the dark.  it had to be done though – it was miserable outside.  it was really windy so at about 2pm, i thought i would open up the door to our balcony to see if it was a cool wind.  not.  you know that draft of hot air you get when you open up the oven?  that’s what it felt like.  even the husband was getting hot and bothered. by 5pm the temperature dropped about 15 degrees and we were able to open up the house again and breathe.   i think i behaved rather well considering the intense heat and my propensity to get grouchy when it’s hot.  we mainly sat around and played wii and watched movies.  it was quite good and i kept my whinging to a minimum.  i even thought ahead and cooked a roast on friday to have for sandwiches on saturday because i knew it would be too hot to cook.  see how good i am?

sunday it rained all day which is a good thing and it was nice and cool all day.  it was a good stay at home day.  the brit went into work and had a soccer game after so me and the kiwi (who just got back from his malaysian excursion) sat around and watched TV.

the intense heat has caused really bad bushfires around out state of victoria.  the healesville sanctuary (which was one of the places we considered going for our anniversary) is threatened and all of the animals had to be moved.  entire townships have been wiped out.  over 100 people are dead.  the wine region (yarra valley) has gone up in flames.  we live in the city so we have not been affected by the bushfires but it’s sad to see the pictures of the animals and people who have lost their homes.  it’s not a good time here at the moment and they expect it to take weeks to get some of the fires under control.

geez, i hate to leave things on a bleak note like that.  i don’t want to be a downer. but it’s monday and everything is bleak on a monday, right?

is it friday yet?
