yep. another monday. they seem to sneak up on me when i’m having a lovely weekend and i’m not ready for them! i’ve spent the entire day drawing a map of some bit of australia for a presentation and it’s mind-numbing work, let me tell you. doesn’t help that i’m not a fan of the pen tool in illustrator and it probably doesn’t help that my knowledge of Australia’s cities, towns and suburbs is limited to, say, inner melbourne (but maybe less than that even). the Brit carries around a tatty old map of melbourne in his bag which he still needs to refer to and he’s been here for ages already! i can’t play the “I’m new” card for too much longer. I’m starting to know what i’m talking about when people stop me on the street and ask me for directions (sorry to all of you wayward tourists who got really bad directions – i have since learned which way is north).
weekend was lovely. the weather was great and i didn’t answer and calls from work and i didn’t work out nor did i feel guilty about either one. i just needed a weekend to relax and refuel and do nothing.
we walked into the city on saturday and i got a new wii game – super paper mario and i ended up playing it for hours when we got home. talk about being a nerd! the Brit wanted to buy it for me as an early bday gift but i wouldn’t let him so he would have to get me something else and surprise me. see how sneaky i am?
i am also trying to bring my gardenia plant back to life. contrary to what i always believed, i was told that naming a plant (ours is named steve) is not motivation enough for the plant to live. it needs things like water, fertiliser and sunshine. it had plenty of sun… just lacking on the first two. however, in my defense, it was raining a lot so therefore i didn’t water it – i didn’t want to drown it. But who am i kidding? I kill cactus because i don’t water it ever. I kill aloe because i water it too much. I just don’t have a green thumb. We took a walk to the nursery on sunday and bought a little bucket of gardenia food and some potting soil. i spent the afternoon transferring him to a bigger pot (i think i should mention that this pot belonged to another plant, marjorie, that didn’t like her name and therefore died). once i was done, steve had three leaves left so i’m hoping for the best…i was kind of rough whilst shaking free the roots. steve better live – i spent $30 on his survival. i’ll be sure to give you status updates (because i know you’ll be holding your breath waiting).
