australian excursion.

fairy-penguin

we booked our annivesary holiday today. i’m so very excited.  when we settled on phillip island to watch the penguin parade for our destination, i started looking at holiday homes to rent and some of them were looking really daggy.  i am not embarrassed to admit that i am a total princess when it comes to our accommodations.  the brit is in charge of bookings and thank goodness he’s quite aware of this because he did a good job booking a place (he premised his decision with “there were no 5 star places on the island”).  He’s so good.

we are renting a villa at an eco-friendly resort on the island which is walking distance from the koala conservation centre, across the road from the wildlife park (maybe i can pet a wombat!) and 15 minutes from the penguin parade.  we’re going at the end of march so it’s autumn already and no school holidays so i’m hoping there won’t be a lot of annoying children running around.  our room has a spa and the resort has a gym.  4 days and 3 nights of no work and annivesary fun.  yay! i wish were were going tomorrow!  man, this trip is going to be better than my first australian excursion to the preston mall (sorry andrew!).

it’ll always grow back.

i’m starting out the new year by getting my hair cut very very short – into a pixie.  i’m quite nervous and i’m hoping that, when reflecting on 2009 this same time next year, this isn’t a day i regret.  people are giving me encouragement but they always end it with “and anyway, it’ll always grow back” which makes me feel unsure again.  i spent the day yesterday measuring my face.  i swear i took every online face shape test on wednesday at work. pixie cuts look best on oval faces which all of the tests say i have but that of course isn’t good enough.  i had our tape meeasure and mirror within arms reach of me all day every time i needed reassurance.  The husband thinks i’m being psychotic and says my head is shaped more like a peanut than a macadamia so not to worry (he was eating trail mix at the time of my first face measuring).  kiwi housemate came home and noticed the implements on the coffee table.
kiwi: “what are you measuring?”
brit:  “her head” (pointing at me)
kiwi breaks out in uncontrollable laughter

hey, it’s an important thing and i want to make sure i’m doing the right thing!   but i guess it will always grow back.  wish me luck on the haircut.  maybe i’ll post some pictures.

happy new year everyone.
